Stony Creek at Glen Alton

The chapter has collaborated with VDGIF and USFS personnel including Joe Williams (VDGIF), Dawn Kirk (USFS), Jesse Overcash (USFS), and Larry Mohn (VDGIF) to develop a comprehensive project to restore coldwater habitat in Stony Creek at the Glen Alton Tract in Giles County, VA. Thus far, three awards for funding have been successfully obtained from Trout Unlimited's Embrace-a-Stream program (proposal written by NRVTU), the National Forest Foundation (proposal written by NRVTU and TU National), and the Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership (proposal written by Dawn Kirk of USFS). [Continuing] Cherokee Flats area on Big Stoney Creek:

The chapter was invited by Joe Williiams, Cold Water Fisheries Biologist with VDGIF, to conduct work to improve in-stream habitat and access for disabled persons in this area that was a previous project for NRVTU in the 1980's. The work done then was first-class, but regular wear and tear over time has warranted maintenance to restore the area to its original condition. [Spring/Summer 2007] Dismal Creek Sub-watershed Restoration:

Through direct efforts by the Clinch Valley and New River Valley Chapters, the Clinch Valley Chapter was awarded an Embrace-a-Stream grant from TU National. This grant encompasses one year of stream monitoring, riparian habitat restoration, and information kiosk construction. The results from the first year of work will allow the chapters and researchers to assess the needs for further resources to address issues with supporting self-sustaining trout populations in the mainstem.

[Summer 2006] Peak Creek Delayed Harvest:

With the help of Joe Williams of VDGIF, NRVTU conducted work to prepare Peak Creak in Pulaski, VA for becoming a delayed-harvest stream managed by VDGIF.
